With the end of the school year getting closer and closer it may be starting to feel like time is running out. I know I feel that way! It is becoming more frustrating to answer the age old "what are you doing next year?" question and the walls of my apartment feel as if they are closing in around me with my move out date looming in the very near future. But, do not give up hope! It is so important to keep a positive attitude when you're looking for a job or employers will be able to sense your negativity. Taking a stab at a new tool, Storify, to keep the blog interesting. It was fun to see what others had to say about their job search and pull together the elements to make a story. I used #jobsearch2014 to see how others are handling the experience. The tweets I found, I thought, perfectly described the angst and optimi I recently came across this infographic and was shocked to see just how much your clothing or overall appearance can impact the results of an interview! After learning that 55% of a first impression is determined by appearance and that clothing could be the deciding factor between similar candidates for 65% of hiring managers, I searched high and low for wardrobe tips that you can use for interviews or the office (sorry guys, these will be most applicable to the women).
I would venture to say that writing a cover letter is the worst, but most important, part of applying to any job. It is always extremely tempting to use a standard cover letter and plug in the relevant information for each job. This would be a huge mistake and dramatically hurt your chances of getting an interview, let alone the job. Until recently, I did not fully understand the cover letter and what its purpose was.
